Founded in 1973 by U.S. Army Veteran Thomas Gast, Truck Driver Institute (TDI) is an adult vocational school that trains individuals and couples to get their Commercial Driver License (CDL). Our school has grown to 11 campuses located in seven states, and is the largest Class A CDL School East of the Rockies not owned by a trucking company.
Truck Driver Institute has been offering one of the leading CDL training programs for more than 47 years. Our program is well respected in the trucking industry for its professionalism and effectiveness.
Looking for that elusive sense of adventure, a change in career, or a career where you can start earning a competitive salary immediately with minimal experience? Want to drive a big truck? Enroll in Truck Driver Institute's Class A CDL training program and learn everything you need to know to take your career on the road.
Class B CDL training allows you to transport freight that weighs less than 10,000 pounds GVWR with a single axle trailer and this training is offered at every Truck Driver Institute facility. After the Class A CDL (commercial driver's license), the Class B is the second most popular CDL to obtain at TDI. High-quality Class B CDL training can be hard to come by, so we're here to explain the benefits of training and how you can turn our CDL program into a lucrative career.

I wish I could give this place 0 reviews. This place is so, corrupted starting from the recruiter's, office staff, the owner, to the instructors. I wish I could also mention names. I have not seeing such a corrupted school like this. Discrimination is at its best. I had so many problems with this company, that, I had to get a lawyer to open up all the issues. And, so many students complain throughout the school. Their truck condition are also not up-to-date. One of the trucks has a lawn chair on the passenger side.

School is poorly operated and you only get mediocre training. Staff is rude with a smile! Training vehicles and range are extremely poor and out dated. The recruiters are pupets and full of lies. Definitely better schools with a higher quality training! Stay away!

It's a good school and they wanna see you succeed, but they definitely need more instructors on the range there're severely understaffed, so your best bet is to listen to the instructors when you get the one on one time and don't expect to be babied here It's a very Straightforward program, if you pay attention and stay motivated you'll pass your CDL test

I'm a recent graduate of TDI South Bend Indiana, and I'll say I had a great experience there. I've already been hired by a reputable national carrier and I couldn't be happier. I'd like to personally thank the classroom and driving instructors John, Dan, Darius, Mike and Pete. They gave me the knowledge and tools to pass the state pre trip and driving test no problem. Recruiter Mike, and all the front office staff were % Great as well. So, in closing, I highly recommend this school, and I'm grateful to everyone there. John Schmidt.

The guy I first talked to on phone had a stick up you know where but when I took my CDL test (to pull a trailer over 10,000 Lbs), the examiner was friendly and made the experience great.

Just graduated with a high score! I want to thank the staff and students that helped me along this journey. A special shout out to Darius and John for the extra care they showed me when I needed it. The school definitely gave me valuable information. Priceless. I hope everyone who attends this institution has the same experience I did. Thank you again. Cordially Richie Graduate 12/30/21

I wouldn't recommend coming to the south bend indiana school. They have no one on the range really helping the students my Class had to help each other out and the director was cocky when you're trying to learn to drive and Darius oh my God! Don't know how he can still be their teaching when 90%he's all ways unprofessional and rude/cocky to his students I highly recommend staying far way and go somewhere else to get the proper training you need

The instructors at TDI are amazing. They all know what they are doing and are amazing teachers. Curt makes backing really simple and easy for anyone to understand. They not only teach you things you need to know for the DOT test, but they also teach you skills that you'll use out on the road. I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get their CDL

Do not support this school. If you're serious about a trucking career attend a school that is better managed. The school has old outdated trucks and is completely mismanaged. Overall my experience has been a nightmare.

If you take your career serious do not attend this school. The teachers are good people, but the school is horribly mismanaged. Extremely money hungry racist and gender bias. The world needs truckers and TDI is determined to create slave contracts that dictate where the students go to further their careers. Do not waste your time or money here.

It saddens me that in the year 2020 this school is extremely racist and gender bias. They receive government funding and it's important that they treat people of color with respect. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL.

I recommend this place 100% the 1 on 1 training, the instructor's care as long as you listen. Chris and Kurt are awesome if you listen 100% and follow their instructions you will graduate in 3 weeks Take instructor Ron with a grain of salt because he's old and runs his way not the way you need to graduate. Always ask Kurt why he likes cats, unicorns and walks on the beaches with Ron

I recently graduated from TDI (09/14/2020) Chris and his staff of trainers -- Curt, Ryan, Ron, and Dan are the best in the industry. These guys genuinely want you to pass your exams and want you to go out there and start making your money. I was happy to leave and sad at the same time as I had become close to the staff Thank you for all the training and knowledge guys. -Jeff

I had FANTASTIC instructors (Dan, Chris, Kirk, Brad) they were all so helpful and offered a different way to lean things, they were the absolute best. We had a good amount of class time, small classes, with good material to learn. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to get their CDL. they are well worth the money. doesn't matter what state your from you can use TDI to get your Fed class A CDL. I'm from Michigan and used them. They rock! Thank you TDI I miss you all already. Your a wonderful group of helpful, caring person! Jami Myers
