Thanks to my driving instructor Joe I was able to fine-tune and finesse my driving skills before my drive test today. He was courteous and professional while also being personable and lightened the mood with his humor and light hearted demeanor.
Specifically, he pointed out how to correctly do a three-point turn (what the test administrators will be looking for) and fixed a bad habit I had with parallel parking; not reversing a partial length of the car aside, before turning the wheel to come into the spot.
I highly recommend New York Auto School, and Joe specifically. He’s a seasoned professional and an all around nice guy.

Customer Testimonials
The New York Auto School was the best decision I could have made to help me obtain my drivers license. I had lessons with different instructors, and they both were very friendly, timely and overall knowledgeable. The office girl J. Always very helpful and accommodating. Thanks New York Auto SChool.

Great school. I went from 0 driving experience to successfully passing the road test on the first try. My instructors David and Mario were great during both the driving lessons and to prepare specifically for the road test. If you want the best chance to get your driver licence I recommend them strongly!!
Mario was super professional, on time, and had great tips towards successfully passing the road test. He picked me up at the subway stop an hour before my appointment, we drove around and went over the important things to pay attention to during the test, and then waited in line until it was my turn. The whole process was very smooth. Go with NY Auto School, they're very good.
The whole experience was great. The 5 hour course was interesting and my instructor Mario (in Westchester) was fantastic. I’m a experienced international driver but am confident that he is the only reason I passed. Highly recommend!
Damir was informative and very careful with the information he conveyed. He gave us great tips and demonstrated certain points that drivers must be careful with on the road and road test. I thought he was a bit humorous and that was good. By the way, he loves my signature! I get that allot (smiling). I will commence my practice in driving and if I could I would actually ask for him to teach me. He seems very patient with students and sees the potential driver in all his students. He understands the mechanics that are in play and how each affect a new driver or an experienced driver. Looking to do your 5 hour class, go to the New York Auto School. You will not regret it. I recommend Damir all the way. THANK YOU DAMIR! SABY.
I include my review. The educator was very thorough and made my wife laugh allot. I was amazed to know that he discussed many if the topics mentioned in the DMV manual. THANKS DAMIR! JOSE.
WE THANK YOU DAMIR!
Most professional, and experienced instructors you'll ever have! Love this place!

The road test or driving test is the final step in order to obtain a driver's license in the state of New York. Road Tests are administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles. During the Road Test a Department of Motor Vehicles examiner will evaluate your ability to handle the motor vehicle and your ability to interact in traffic safely. In order to be tested you must make an appointment. The DMV examiner will give you an interim license that allows you to drive. Keep the interim license with your photo learner permit.
PIRP is also known as the Defensive Driving Course or Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course. It is a comprehensive driver safety course which provides knowledge and techniques for safe and lawful driving. The classroom course is 320 minutes long. It is presented in one or more sessions. The course must include essential information about traffic safety. It must cover these and other topics: driver attitude and behavior, defensive driving techniques, and the Vehicle & Traffic Law. If you need to verify that your course completion is on your DMV record, you can request a copy of your driving record.
International Driving Permit: An International Driving Permit is not a driver license. The permit only verifies that you hold a valid driver license in your home country. Your foreign driver license, not the International Driving Permit, allows you to drive in NYS. Contact the authorities in your home country to get an International Driving Permit. If you are not a resident of the US, you cannot apply for an International Driving Permit in the US. You are not required to have an International Driving Permit to drive in NYS, but the permit has value.

It is also recommended that at least 10 hours of supervised practice driving be in moderate to heavy traffic. Professional driving instruction is recommended as well as a meticulous review of the Drivers Manual. If you are under age 18 and have a Class DJ or Class MJ permit, make sure you read about supervised practice driving hours required by law that must be certified by your parent or guardian.
