Some of our examiners will ask that you wear a mask for your drive test. Please have a mask available to wear. If an examiner does not wear a mask and you would like them too, please let them know and we will be happy to wear one for you.

Services
Prices are for all locations. Department of Licensing requires 50 hours of behind the wheel driving practice to obtain a driver license, this package meets that requirement. One additional hour of behind the wheel lessons for teens that have previously taken our traffic safety course. Our customized teen course would be scheduled on dates and times that meet your needs all while meeting the minimum WA state requirements for drivers education.
When choosing a class session to register for, please keep in mind that Department of Licensing WAC 308-108-150 http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=308-108-150 allows for students only to miss 6 classroom sessions. All Classroom sessions must be made up to complete the course. Department of Licensing recommends that parents attend a Parent meeting.
Do you have a WA state issued ID card, Enhanced ID card or your permit already or had one issued when you were younger and it expired? YES-Move onto Step 2 (you will need the number from your card issued previously). NO- You will need to pre-apply at the Department of Licensing website and receive your permit/license number?
If you have an appointment to get your permit you can schedule your drives for after that date. Please note that if for some reason you were not able to get your permit at your appointment it is your responsibility to cancel your drives. Please make sure you have your paper permit if you have not gotten your permanent one in the mail yet.

* got a basic driver package set of lessons for a learning-disabled adult learner * I worked with Nelson Driving School to learn to drive for the first time as an adult. I was very anxious about the learning process beforehand, as I have ADHD and am on the autism spectrum and this has previously led to some traumatic experiences when instructors could not understand or connect to the ways I learn.
At the time I reached out, I specifically asked for an instructor who could be patient with me and they were very friendly and accommodating as we set up the driving package and dates. It's now been over a year since I completed my lesson series, and I've been driving for > 6 months. With the perspective gained by time, I feel confident in saying that the instructor I worked with was a very skilled teacher - she had excellent attention to detail as I worked on developing new skills and was deftly able to redirect attention if she noted excessive anxiety.
She was also able to tailor her instructions so I could understand more quickly - she was happy, for instance, to explain parallel parking as a step-by-step algorithm and discussed the particular angles I was looking for at each step. I was so relieved and grateful to be understood! Learning still was not easy - I was always mentally and emotionally wiped out after each 2hr lesson - but it was well worth the effort and I am so glad to have learned. Thank you all at Nelson for your support and encouragement!

Kim was an absolutely phenomenal driving examiner. I took my test with her Saturday 9/18/21 and was extremely nervous as this was my second test. Her presence in the car was very calming and she made me feel at ease. She gave clear directions, was extremely professional, personable and had a glowing, warm personality. This world needs more people like Kim! I am so pleased with my experience and highly recommend this driving school, the staff is top notch and their website is easy to navigate and book appointments.

I took both my knowledge and driving tests here. I was absurdly nervous for my driving test, but my instructor was incredibly kind and understanding which made it much easier! The whole process took maybe 20-30 minutes. I ended up passing on my first try despite all my fears, and I can't recommend this place enough.

They are THE BEST DRIVING SCHOOL IN Bellingham PLEASE GO HERE the Kind women in the front she's so kind and helpful I passed my written test and driving test first try I'm so happy driving instructor was VERY HELPFUL I'm serious if you can please go here. Easy enough process to go in for a knowledge exam. Good social distancing and sanitizing. However, receptionist was rude to me and short with me despite me having just arrived and only being there for a maximum of 10 minutes. It was also unprofessional for front staff to speak about a different customer/student unkindly after they had left while other customers/test takers were in the vicinity.

I highly recommend Nelson Driving School. I took my knowledge and driving test here and I passed it all in just one try. Ive got no experience in driving that is why I took an 8 hour driving lesson, and I would like to commend Don Whitney-my instructor for being so relaxed, informative and very reliable. He's such a pro! I feel so comfortable while driving, and i would say it was such a great and fun experience learning with him. Thanks a lot!

I just took both of my tests yesterday and it was actually kind of fun! The people who work there are very friendly, and they helped me log on to my account when I couldn't find my Washington ID which was such a relief! Oh, and it was just nice to hear them talking about Stephen King books in the background while I was taking the written test, helped with my nerves a bit. Haha : The student driver car is so fancy and it was really fun to drive and that also helped with my nerves! Clyde was really cool. Anyways, overall a very positive experience. And now I can drive on my own!
